SUPRAMEN

You can see in the dark, you know

The two positions of I see.

On this page we have archivised the some of the works we (Emmeli Person and Emelie CarlĂ©n) have done as a dou. Finding kinship in a critical approach to spectatorship, this collaboration has grown from closing our eyes, opening up our earlids to wiggling our tongues.

Taking the form of choreographed walks, texts and audioworks, the simple act of closing our eyes has been a useful tool to consider how images instigate political and social confirmity, and so slip under supraliminial levels.

The conceptual starting point of supramen is the political dimensions of the senses. Supraliminal experience -  the experiences beyond the threashold of conciousness -  brew unsignified understandings, imageries floating in dissolved modes and morphes with our concepts of knowing. Ah, I see.

Together we decided to take the slippage beteen these different images seriously. Working to tickle the image produced beyond the retina. From this angle we could ask how simple arrangements of the senses, such as the removal of sight, and the hightening of hearing, could open up intensified reflections on the fluctuating power of images. Paradoxically, closing our eyes has been a useful tool to consider how images instigate political and social confirmity, and so slip under supraliminial levels.
